Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to promote social distancing measures due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Expected finish: Sunday 2 January 2022, or until such measures are deemed unnecessary.  
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade.
Alternative route: the alternative route is The Esplanade, Manchester Road, Drake Street, School Lane and Church Lane.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to enable an archaeological dig to take place.

Expected start and finish: 1 July 2021 - 31 January 2022.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Packer Street, from its junction with South Parade up to and including its junction with Nelson Street. And temporary closure of Fleece Street, from its junction with King Street to its junction with Packer Street.
Alternative routes: there are no alternative routes available.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to repair a subsiding carriageway.

Expected finish: 4.30pm on Monday 23 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Dell Road:

  • From a point 958 metres in a southerly direction from its junction with Market Street for a distance of 100 metres in a southerly direction.
  • From a point 673 metres in a northerly direction from its junction with Shawclough Road for a distance of 75 metres in a northerly direction.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be Market Street, Shawclough Road and Dell Road.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to repair a leaking water main in the footpath.

Expected start and finish: 8am, Friday 16 July - 8am, 6 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Beaumonds Way, from its junction with Broadhalgh Road for its entire length.
Alternative routes: there is no alternative route for vehicles.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7pm–5am each night from Monday 26 July - Sunday 15 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Sir Isaac Newton Way, from its junction with Kingsway to the roundabout at the entry and exit slip road of junction 21 on the M62 westbound.
Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closure is in effect.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: to facilitate a bus replacement service while railway engineering works are ongoing.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 31 July -  Monday 16 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary prohibition of waiting and loading at any time south east of Station Road, from a point 15 metres south west of its junction with Richard Street to a point 68 metres south west of its junction with Richard Street. Rail replacement buses are exempted.

Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am–5.30pm each day from Saturday 24 July - Friday 10 September 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Windermere Road, from its junction with Wood Street to its junction with Bowness Road.
Alternative routes: alternative routes for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: Virgin Media are currently installing new Fibre Broadband in the Heywood area.

Expected start and finish: ongoing
Who to contact: for any issues about this work, please use the following methods to gain the quickest and safest possible resolution.

  1. Contractors on site - contact a site supervisor. They are best placed to resolve many issues there and then. In most instances, this will be the quickest and safest way to resolve any issue.
  2. Virgin Media Helpdesk - if unresolved, or there are no contractors in the area, or if the site has been left in an unsafe manner and requires urgent attention, please ring the Virgin Media helpdesk on 0333 000 5925. The helpdesk hours are: Monday–Friday, 8am–7.30pm & Saturday, 8am–12noon. The helpdesk will alert the contractor and Virgin Media's compliance engineers. Alternatively, please email expansionworks@virginmedia.co.uk with details of your address and preferred contact method.
  3. Rochdale Borough Council Highways - we need to be aware of issues being raised with Virgin Media. Please email highways@rochdale.gov.uk or phone on 0300 303 8879, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. At all other times, please phone our Contact Centre on 0300 303 8875 for emergency work on the highway.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to facilitate construction work to widen the road.

Expected finish: 6pm, Monday 1 August 2022.
Restriction and location:

  • Prohibit vehicles from proceeding along Hareshill Road, from its junction with Hill Top Road, for a distance of 670 metres in a south easterly direction.
  • Vehicles exceeding 18 tonnes will be able to travel along Hareshill Road for a distance of 1,092 metres in a north-westerly direction.
  • Vehicles wider than 7 feet, 6 inches will be permitted to travel along Hareshill Road from its junction with Manchester Road to a point 60 metres north-west of its junction with Manchester Road.

Alternative routes:

  • To access Hareshill Road from Manchester Road: Manchester Road, Manchester Street, Church Street, LCpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, Market Place, Market Street, Bridge Street and Pilsworth Road.
  • To access Hareshill Road from Pilsworth Road: Pilsworth Road, Bridge Street, Dawson Street, Bamford Road, Market Place, LCpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, Church Street, Manchester Street and Manchester Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: to allow multiple excavations to locate and clear blocked telecom ducts in the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 9am–4pm each day, Monday 9 August - Wednesday 11 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Birtle Road, from a point 660 metres north of its junction with Elbut Lane for a distance of 710 metres in a north westerly direction.

Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: to maintain the level crossing signals and telecommunication systems.

Expected start and finish: 11.30pm, Saturday 31 July - 5.30am, Sunday 1 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Smithy Bridge Road, from a point 50 metres north west of the level crossing to a point 50 metres south east of the level crossing.
Alternative route: the alternative route for vehicles will be Smithy Bridge Road, Milnrow Road (Littleborough), Wildhouse Lane, Kiln Lane, Bridge Street, Rochdale Road, Milnrow Road (Rochdale), Albert Royds Street, Halifax Road (A58) and Smithy Bridge Road.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to repair a damaged water main.

Expected start and finish: Saturday 17 July - 7am, Saturday 7 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of Two Bridges Road, from a point 15 metres north east of its junctioin with Meadowside for a distance of 20 metres in a north easterly direction.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to repair a damaged electricity cable.

Expected start and finish: Thursday 22 July - 7am, Thursday 12 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of New Street, from its junction with Newhey Road for a distance of 20 metres in a north easterly direction.
Organised by: Rochdale Borough Council.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am–5.30pm each day from Thursday 22 July - Sunday 29 August 2021.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Whitelees Road, from its junction with Wardle Street to its junction with Calderbrook Road, Shore Road and Hare Hill Road.
  • Temporary closure of Calderbrook Road, from its junction with Whitelees Road, Shore Road and Hare Hill Road to a point 70 metres north east of its junction with Clough Road.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to resurface the carriageway.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am–5.30pm each day, Thursday 22 July - Sunday 29 August 2021.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Whitelees Road, from its junction with Wardle Street to its junction with Calderbrook Road, Shore Road and Hare Hill Road.
  • Temporary closure of Calderbrook Road, from its junction with Whitelees Road, Shore Road and Hare Hill Road to a point 70 metres north east of its junction with Clough Road.

Alternative routes: the alternative route for vehicles will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Area: Pennines
Reason: to install new gas mains and connections.

Expected start and finish: 7.30am, Wednesday 28 July - 6.30pm, Friday 13 August 2021.
Restriction and location: temporary closure of the footway accessing Welbeck Close for its entire length. Please note this will affect pedestrians only.
