Kingsway Park High School has received recognition through The AcSEED Award for its commitment to supporting the mental health of pupils.

Recognising schools that provide ‘high quality emotional wellbeing and support’, Kingsway Park High School is the first school in the Rochdale borough to achieve the award.

An initiative set up in 2010 by members of the YoungMinds VIK project, Kingsway received the AcSEED accreditation after investing in the provision and maintenance of emotional wellbeing support programmes.

A representative of the secondary school said: “Kingsway Park has received this award due to implementing best practice towards emotional wellbeing support for our young people including a safe and supportive environment in which students can seek support, early intervention for young people who may show signs of mental difficulties, and work with outside agencies to provide the best support in the interests of our young people.

“We also work tirelessly to end the stigma around accessing mental health support. This is something that we feel passionate about and it is particularly important due to the difficulties of the last few years.

“We are very proud to receive this award as it reflects our dedication to the emotional health and wellbeing of our young people.”

Charlotte Gatherer, founder of The AcSEED Initiative, said: "AcSEED promotes adoption of best practices in supporting the emotional wellbeing and mental health of young people in UK schools and colleges, and provides recognition for organisations that satisfy the AcSEED criteria for wellbeing support.

"The AcSEED assessment team were particularly impressed by the strong wellbeing ethos at Kingsway Park High School, by their wide range of mental health and wellbeing provisions for both students and staff, and by their sharing of best practice with other schools. We are therefore delighted to announce that Kingsway Park High School has been accredited with The AcSEED Award."

The AcSEED Initiative is a charitable organisation exclusively focused on promoting the need for high quality emotional wellbeing and mental health support in UK schools and colleges, and provides recognition through The AcSEED Award to those organisations that can demonstrate their commitment to such support

Founded by young people with lived experience of wellbeing challenges at school, the wellbeing framework defined by AcSEED encourages a whole school approach to emotional wellbeing and mental health support.
