The closure on Fleece Street
A section of Fleece Street in Rochdale town centre has been closed, meaning there is no through road to Packer Street or The Esplanade.
As of 1 July, the section of Fleece Street between Yates and Natwest has been closed – from King Street to Packer Street.
Signs informing motorists of the closure are displayed on Drake Street, School Lane and on Church Stile near Moore Street.
The new exit is now left up King Street (behind the Packer Street venues), left onto Nelson Street, right onto Church Lane, then via Moore Street onto Drake Street (left turn only), or onto Drake Street via Church Stile.
The closure is in place until 31 January 2022 to allow for an upcoming archaeological dig in Town Hall Square.

Additionally, some of the on street parking outside the town hall on The Esplanade has been marked up as a taxi rank, as the rank on Packer Street is now inaccessible.
Parking for town centre shoppers, which offers three hours’ free parking, remains available on the opposite side of the Esplanade next to the cenotaph.
