Castleton Railway Station is blooming, thanks to local schools

Date published: 03 July 2021

Castleton’s primary schools have helped plant up the floral containers at Castleton Railway Station.

Normally all four village schools would be involved, but this year, two schools were prevented from taking part in the annual plant up earlier this month, on Thursday 10 June.

St Gabriels RC Primary School had a two week half term break returning on the following Monday, and St John’s Thornham sadly suffered a Covid-19 lockdown. These two totally different reasons prevented a much looked forward to event being attended by the two schools.

To avoid disappointing the school children, Councillor Billy Sheerin held back some of the planters during the earlier session, and this week St Gabriel's and St John's schools came down to the railway station and finished off planting up the remaining empty containers.

Councillor Sheerin said: “The railway station now looks radiant with many flowers on display and they make such a difference. Thank you to all the schools for making our railway station special.”
