A car – believed to be stolen – has been found in the canal near Smithybridge Railway Station.

The white BMW – registration WG13 JTU – was spotted almost completely submerged in the murky water on Monday morning (28 June).

Both front doors were open, as was the boot, whilst one airbag had been deployed.

Two passersby confirmed to Rochdale Online that the area had been cordoned off by police on Monday morning.

According to the government database, the car has a valid MOT until 9 August 2021, but tax was due on 14 May 2021.

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for comment.
