The Women of Whitworth host wellness weekend

Date published: 01 June 2021

The Women of Whitworth (WoW) Project held a virtual Wellness Weekend event on 15-16 May.

WoW co-founder Liz Prior and funding advisor Naomi Kenyon organised the weekend, which coincided with Mental Health Awareness Week, including lots of online taster sessions for residents: Pilates, yoga, tai chi, street dance, top tips for pain management and posture, nutritious cooking, journaling, mindfulness colouring, eco crafts and more.

Each resident received a wellness pack with details of support services available to them locally and some treats to encourage healthy living.

Kimberley Ashworth, founder of The Women of Whitworth Project, said: “It’s been a really difficult 13 months for everyone. With this event, we wanted to provide an opportunity to relax and enjoy a number of fun sessions, whilst remaining covid-safe. We had a real mix of singles, couple and whole families taking part."

Liz Prior added: "It’s been great collaborating with a number of local businesses to bring this event together and we've been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from residents who took part.

“Our aim is to make this an annual event in the community, but we hope to be able to meet in person in 2022.

“Special thanks goes to the event sponsors, and those that made the event possible."
