Heywood Magic Market re-opened to the public on Tuesday 18 May 2021
Heywood Magic Market officially re-opened its doors to the public on Tuesday 18 May, following a 12-week long refurbishment.
To help existing businesses and entice new ones, work to revitalise the look and feel of the local market, based on York Street, began in February.
Funded entirely by Heywood Market Board - and costing approximately £400,000 - the building features all the old favourites, plus new stalls too.
A range of goods are currently on offer, from clothing, bridal and prom dresses, footwear, sweet treats, baked goods, fruit and veg, meat, cheese, pies, cleaning and household goods, carpets, haberdashery items, clothing alterations, gifts and cards, candles, makeup and pet supplies.
Hot food is also available at the café, with a new seating area to rest and meet friends.
A brand-new bandstand also takes centre stage for performances from local singers and muscians.
A representative of Heywood Market Board said of the opening day: “A big thank you to everyone who came and supported us.
“We also would like to thank the traders and porters, and our contractors Armstrong’s Building Maintenance and Interiors, Ashton Electricals, and Walsden Flooring for our new look market.
“The Board of Heywood Market hopes that with your support we can continue to help all our traders’ businesses in maintaining your local community market.
“Thank you as always for your continued support it’s very much appreciated.”
Set in the heart of Heywood, the market has enjoyed hundreds of years of trading since it is believed to have opened in the 1800s. Over the last 18 years - since the launch of Heywood Magic Development Trust - the market has seen vast improvements, including the recent upgrades over the last three months.
Heywood Magic Market is open three days a week: 8.30am – 5pm on Tuesday, 8am – 5pm Friday, and 8am – 4pm Saturday.
