Man arrested by police after his bragging about being wanted was overheard by officers

Date published: 25 May 2021

A young man who was wanted by police was arrested - after bragging to his friends that he was currently wanted.

The man had been boasting to his friends at the Metrolink platform near Rochdale Railway Station that he was wanted by police.

Unbeknownst to him, his bragging was overheard by plain clothed officers from the transport unit, who were conducting a joint operation with the British Transport Police at Rochdale Railway Station.

Wanted for three offences, the man was arrested on the spot before appearing at court, where he had failed to attend two previous cases for burglary and theft.

In a Facebook post on Friday 21 May, police said: “Plain clothed officers from the #TransportUnit, whilst conducting a joint operation with the British Transport Police at Rochdale train station, overheard a cheeky young male boasting to his friends at the nearby Metrolink UK platform that he was currently wanted by police.

“Uniformed officers soon discovered the male was correct in his boasts and so the male was arrested on the spot for being wanted for three offences.

“He was given a free overnight stay in police custody and a day trip out to court to answer why he had failed to attend two previous court cases for burglary and theft offences.”
