The Sparth scorpion fossil
If you’ve ever fancied a go at juggling or plate-spinning, Skylight Circus Arts is offering you the chance to try it for free during National Lottery Open Week next month.
Join them on Saturday 12 June for free have-a-go circus taster session before heading off with the Skylight team for a 5.2km guided walk.
The route from Broadfield Park is packed with sites of local and geological interest, culminating at Sparthbottoms, the site of the famous 'Rochdale Scorpion' fossil find.
The scorpion fossil featured in the recent Dippy on Tour Exhibition, and was found by a local woman, Mary Fisher Lange, in 1903.
The route ends at Touchstones Museum in Rochdale Town Centre with a short film produced by Skylight about another fantastic and – much more recent - local fossil find, ‘Mammoth.’

Afterwards, there's time for a brew and cake - at a special price at Slice Café in Touchstones - and a chance to check out the museum and gallery’s latest exhibition.
