Local fundraiser Wesley Dowd will be once again taking on the gruelling 85-mile walk across the Dale Ways to raise money for Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home.
Wesley, who regularly raises money for a number of local causes, will be carrying out the six-day challenge next month with his dog, Finley. They will be camping out along the route from Ilkley in West Yorkshire to Bowness-on-Windermere in Cumbria in all weathers.
Wesley is no stranger to the challenge, having completed it many times before to raise money for the Moorland Home at Wardle’s Nab Farm, which acts as a respite for children from disadvantaged families as well as offering a week’s holiday for disadvantaged children. Providing the children with an excellent environment to improve their social skills, quite often, this is the only opportunity that these children have for a holiday.
The farm was donated by Frederick Lye, one of Rochdale's most distinguished citizens and benefactors, to the committee in the 1920s.
