Norden boys to run 10k relay for Manchester Children's Hospital

Date published: 26 March 2021

Three brothers from Norden are running a 10k relay through Norden and Bamford on Saturday morning (27 March) to raise money for Manchester Children’s Hospital.

George, eight, Oliver, five, and Freddie Harper, four, will run the distance with their dad, Alasdair Harper, setting off at 10am.

Their route will take them past Cutgate to the Crown Oil Arena, down Sandy Lane to Bury Road to the junction with Norden Road, past the Winston Churchill and the Dolce Vita, past the golf course on Bagslate Moor Road and back through Norden village. The boys will set off with their dad, aiming to each run 3,000m on their own and then hopefully run the final 1,000m as a trio.

The boys’ 10,000m run comes as part of a 10,000 challenge to raise money for the hospital’s renal unit in honour of Ethan Cutting, 16. Ethan is the son of Alasdair’s work colleague at Woodhey High School in Bury, and is awaiting a second kidney transplant.

George, Oliver and Freddie hope to be back in Norden by 11.30am – where they will celebrate with a hard-earned chippy lunch.

Their mum, Liz, said: “It would be fantastic for anyone to wave, clap or beep if they see them on their route on Saturday morning and keep their little legs going.”
