Rochdale man avoids jail for child sex charges after communicating with undercover police officer he believed to be underage child

A Rochdale man has avoided jail after pleading guilty to several child sex charges at Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday (16 March).

Believing he was communicating with a child, Justin Williams, 42, had actually been communicating with an undercover police officer at the time of the offences.

Williams admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, attempting to cause a child under 13 to watch/look at sexual activity, and attempting to cause or incite a female child age 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Williams was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, suspended for two years; a 40 day rehabilitation activity requirement; 120 hours of unpaid work; to pay a victim surcharge and given a forfeiture order.

He was also made the subject of a 10 year sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
