Morrisons Rochdale joins forces with Councillor Faisal Rana to support local good causes

Date published: 17 March 2021

Morrisons Rochdale has teamed up with local councillor Faisal Rana to donate even more to good causes.

The supermarket has been busy delivering groceries to Rochdale Soup Kitchen, the Foodbank, Angie's Angels and homeless groups during the pandemic, and also supports several other organisations including Springhill Hospice and cancer charities like Marie Curie.

It has now joined up with Spotland ward councillor Faisal Rana to reach out to more groups and needy families in the town.

Emma Pedgrift, community champion for Morrisons Rochdale said: "Our customers are very generous and have donated several tonnes of goods to help local families and lots of voluntary groups. The store is keen to do even more and reach out to all parts of the local community.

“We have been amazed with Faisal's one-man fundraising drive and together we want to do so much more to help local good causes."

Over the years, Councillor Rana has donated thousands of pounds to charities including the local hospice, Petrus, Angie's Angels and Cancer Research.

During the pandemic, Councillor Rana distributed PPE to care homes, shops and schools, and donated socks and warm jackets to help the homeless throughout winter.

Councillor Rana said: "I have always been passionate about fundraising and I am keen to give something back to the town where I live and work.

“Morrisons supermarket has a strong social responsibility ethic and is among the best in supporting the local community.

“Together we want to do even more to help families in need, support local charities and also reach out to Rochdale's minority communities."

Morrisons recently took part in a national initiative to donate £1 million worth of food to local foodbanks. The Kingsway store donated groceries worth around £1,000 every week to Rochdale Foodbank and other local charities.

During the pandemic, Councillor Rana was awarded two special recognition awards from the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester and the Lord Lieutenant for his voluntary efforts during lockdown.
