Heywood woman to complete sky-high challenge for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 13 March 2021

Tania Kelly will soon take to the skies for Springhill Hospice as she participates in a long-awaited sponsored sky dive.

On Saturday 24 April, Tania, from Heywood, will jump out of a plane soaring 15,000 feet in the sky, and is hoping to raise £2,000 for Rochdale’s Springhill Hospice before the big day.

Currently, her fundraising total stands at £1,610.

To boost the funds and reach her target, Tania has decided to host an online charity raffle.

She said: “Within the raffle there are prizes from over 40 businesses across Rochdale, Heywood and Middleton who have donated their services as prizes. Prizes include driving lessons, restaurant vouchers, beauty treatments, sports sessions like golfing and rugby, plus all sorts of other vouchers.

“Tickets are £2 each or 3 for £5. For every £5 you put in, your name will be entered into the raffle three times. Winners will be drawn on Friday 26 March.

“My goal is to reach £2,000; any sponsorships or donations would be much appreciated.”

Explaining why she decided to fundraise for the local charity, Tania said: “Springhill Hospice took care of my grandpa for the final few months of his life, before he died in 2016. They made him feel comfortable, kept his spirits high, and consistently provided care and compassion to both him and the rest of the family. They not only made things easier for him, but for us as a family too.

“I’m so grateful for everything they have done and continue to do for families across the local community.

“Springhill Hospice is a charity many hold close to their heart, so raising the money is just a small way of showing my appreciation towards the charity and all the members of staff there.”

Springhill Hospice provides specialist palliative care to patients and their families, and the funds provided will help them provide the highest standard of physical, emotional, and spiritual care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

With their charity shops temporarily closed and annual events cancelled, it is vital that the community continues to support Rochdale’s only hospice throughout these unprecedented times.
