New single 'Sweet Talkin'' released by Ellysse Mason

Date published: 25 February 2021

‘Sweet Talkin’’, the latest release from local independent singer-songwriter Ellysse Mason, is available from tomorrow (Friday 26 February).

Continuing in the theme of outer space, Sweet Talkin’ is the third single from Ellysse’s upcoming album.

Stepping slightly away from the up-beat dance feel of the last two singles, this track is a slow, perfectly-paced trip into an eerie-but-familiar sonic landscape, with glimpses of sounds and synths reminiscent of sci-fi shows from years gone by – a nod to the heavy 80’s influence of Ellysse’s current sound and her fascination with all things outer space.

Ellysse, who moved to Manchester from Rochdale a few years ago, said: “The song is about finding it difficult to communicate. Feeling lost in a void, which can sometimes make you feel like you’re floating off into space, with no tether. And looking back to where you started from, but feeling totally disconnected from it.”

Explaining the video, Ellysse continued: “I wanted to create something quite striking with moving lights, that simulated the look or at least represented the movement of spinning in outer space.

“Since we didn’t have the budget to go there ourselves on the next SpaceX launch, we just ended up filming in a friend’s back garden with someone waving some lights around my head.

“We also use a bunch of fireworks in there and the overall look is really effective, considering it was shot in one night on a shoestring.”

Ellysse won Rochdale’s Got Talent in 2010 when she was only 14-years-old, having written and performed her own original track, before performing at the Rochdale Feel Good Festival later that year.

The former Falinge Park High School student then recorded her first EP in her bedroom before the self-released lead single on Ellysse’s last EP 'Hunt Me Down' reached 2.5 million streams on Spotify, leaping straight into number 10 on the platform’s New Music Friday playlist.

Ellysse has sold out headline shows at The Deaf Institute and Academy 3, in Manchester, supported Tom Walker on his UK tour and featured at Off The Record (Manchester), as well as multiple live performances on BBC Introducing Manchester, Soho Radio and other local North West radio stations.
