Brownhill Learning Community brings Christmas cheer to local care homes

Date published: 28 December 2020

Brownhill Learning Community has been running an ongoing project with local care homes to try and ease loneliness and bring cheer.

During the second lockdown, students from Brownhill created handmade personalised centre pieces for two local care homes to use on Christmas dinner tables.

Students visited the care homes to deliver the centre pieces and sing Christmas carols and the residents came to the windows to wave and blow kisses to the students and wish them a merry Christmas.

Chelsea Williamson, Youth Worker at Brownhill Learning Community, said: “This was heart-warming for the students, residents and staff alike. They loved the gifts and seeing the students hand-delivering them.”

The blossoming friendships will continue into the new year, as the Brownhill youth team will be developing a community cohesion project with the care home and students.

The students will be maintaining gardening planters, which the school provided during the first lockdown.
