Ruchi restaurant providing free hot meals on Christmas day

Date published: 24 December 2020

A local Indian restaurant will serve a free portion of chicken curry, rice, and a drink on Christmas day to the homeless and those less fortunate.

Owner of Ruchi restaurant on Whitworth Road, Abdul Hye, along with friend Darren Barker, will serve the free food from the front door of the Dick Whittington B&B on Oldham Road from 12noon to 3pm.

Anyone in need can turn up and collect a free hot meal, with a hot or cold drink so they don't have an empty stomach on Christmas. Masks must be worn and social distancing adhered to.

Abdul said: "We wanted to provide a hot meal for everyone in need, however many we make. Chefs will be working at Ruchi on the day, so we won't run out."

Darren said: “No money or tickets needed, just turn up. We really want to get the word out there so people in Rochdale don’t have to go without on Christmas day. I just want to give back to those struggling.”
