Sign Along With Us to begin UK tour next year

Date published: 28 December 2020

Britain’s Got Talent’s local sign language champions Sign Along With Us are embarking on a UK tour next year, bringing their message of inclusivity to even more people in an afternoon of family fun.

The group’s first stop will be Middleton Arena in September 2021, followed by Maidstone and Lancaster in January 2022. More dates and areas will be announced.

Jade and Christian Kilduff, of Heywood, started the group in 2019. It was with Christian, five, in mind that Jade started Sign Along With Us, teaching Makaton sign language so she could communicate with her little brother who has cerebral palsy.

This grew and Jade began offering free signing classes to other local children and their families, to improve the lives of those with disabilities.

Jade and Christian also presented Mencap’s virtual Big Family Christmas Party on Thursday 17 December, a jam-packed half-hour of entertainment for people with a learning disability and their friends and family. Mencap, which works to support people with a learning disability, their families and carers, held the event via Facebook Live.

The Sign Along With Us group (backed by the Rochdale Music Service Youth Choir) auditioned for this year’s series of Britain’s Got Talent after learning ‘This Is Me’ from The Greatest Showman – their unofficial motto.

The sign language champions and their message of inclusivity impressed judges at the auditions back in April with their emotional rendition of ‘This Is Me’, before being chosen as a final act by the public in the third semi-final and placing second in the final.

The audition video was named as one of YouTube’s top 10 trending videos in 2020, having been the eighth most watched with over 25 million views.
