Date published: 19 December 2020

Springhill’s Wear Your Woollies to Work campaign was celebrated across the borough on Friday 11 December, as 14 schools and nurseries participated, as well as 15 local businesses and care facilities joining forces to support the local service.

Springhill Hospice encourages residents and businesses to take part in their Wear your Woollies to Work campaign every December, to help Springhill provide vital end of life care for patients in the local community.

So far this year, Wear Your Woollies has raised over £5,000 for the hospice, and the figure is still growing.

The team at Rochdale Training came together for Wear Your Woollies day on Wednesday 9 December and raised £75.18 for Springhill Hospice.

Mark Whittaker, of Rochdale Training, said: “We are pleased to have supported Wear your Woollies to Work day. Our employees, apprentices and trainees all contributed to a great local cause for our community. Thanks to all the team at Springhill Hospice.”

H Bell and Sons Ltd workforce also came together to show off their best woollies in aid of charity. Managing Director Chris Bell commented: “At H Bell and Sons we are very proud of our staff and the support and volunteering given to the community and charities of Rochdale throughout the year. We look forward to continuing our support in 2021.”

Sophie Ansley, Corporate and Partnerships Fundraiser at Springhill, said: “After such a difficult year for everyone, it has been wonderful to offer our local community a nice distraction by getting them to wear their silliest winter woollies or participating in our very first Reindeer Run.

“We have been overwhelmed by the support our festive campaign has attracted, from small nursery children to those receiving care in our local care homes. This has really captured people’s Christmas spirits and we offer our sincere thanks to each and every individual who has donated towards such a vital service within our community.”

For Wear Your Woollies, employees can take part in various fundraising activities, simply by donning their favourite Christmas or woolly jumper for the day or if you’re up for a challenge, Springhill suggest a best dressed competition, or maybe even a festive bake off.

To take part in the event, the local hospice asks for everyone to make a small donation to contribute to the specialist care services provided by Springhill, which requires nearly £9,000 every day to remain open.

Springhill’s Wear your Woollies to Work campaign was officially held on Friday 11 December this year, although companies can take part throughout December on a date that suits them - whether you are working from the office, from home, you’re a one-man band or a large organisation.
