Santa Express given a warm welcome in Whitworth

Date published: 16 December 2020

Santa Claus was given a warm welcome in Whitworth earlier this month, as he visited the town with a custom-built light-up sleigh.

As an alternative to the annual Christmas light switch on, Whitworth Tourism and Leisure Committee volunteers invited Santa to ride around in their custom-built light up sleigh and greet all the children (and adults).

They covered 16 miles over two nights on Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December, waving to the children as they drove up and down all the main routes in Whitworth and Shawforth.

Hundreds of families stood out in the cold on their doorsteps or the end of the street to watch Santa pass by.

There were even elderly couples waving and the residents at Barley View care home rolled out the red carpet for Santa.

As the boys and girls have been extra good this year, especially with everything they have had to deal with during these difficult times, Santa has a small window in his busy schedule so he is going to make another visit to Whitworth on Sunday 20 December.

As Santa’s time is precious at this time of year, he has had to amend the original routes slightly. Unfortunately he won’t have time in his extra busy schedule to make stops along the route – but he would love it if you could come out and give him a wave on Sunday.

Santa has also agreed to come back to Whitworth next year.
