College unveils new industry-leading facility with special cutting of the ribbon

Hopwood Hall College held a special ribbon cutting ceremony as it officially opened its latest industry-leading facility at its Middleton campus.

The small outdoor ceremony saw students, staff and governors gather to celebrate the completion of the new Multi Skills Training Centre, which is fully equipped for students to hone their craft in a range of timeless trades, including brickwork, carpentry, joinery and many more.

Clive Reid, Vice Chair of Governors, cut the ribbon and unveiled a new plaque at the front of the building.

The training centre was then ready to welcome learners immediately – with the first lesson starting just 15 minutes later.

The refurbished building is part of a larger investment scheme being rolled out at Hopwood Hall.

Over the course of just five years the college is investing £24m through its estates strategy to ensure it continues to provide industry-leading facilities for its students.

The Multi Skills Training Centre was unveiled ahead of the college’s Industry Week, which takes place from 7 – 11 December.

This event will feature a number of local employers attending campus to offer their expertise to students and celebrate the importance of the trades being taught at Hopwood’s state-of-the-art Technology Centre.

Julia Heap, Principal and CEO of Hopwood Hall College, said: “The Multi Skills Training Centre was only open for a few minutes before students rolled up their sleeves and began reaping the rewards.

“It’s exciting to remember that many other generations of students will also develop their skills in this new facility in the years to come. 

“It really will put them in a great position to gain an important qualification and enter the modern job market.”
