Local homelessness charity recognised with gold accreditation from Investors in People

Date published: 14 December 2020

Rochdale-based homelessness charity Petrus has been awarded the ‘We invest In People, gold accreditation’ from Investors in People.

During the assessment, Investors in People praised the charity, founded in 1972, for navigating the Covid-19 pandemic “extremely well, going the extra mile to support staff to ensure their health, wellbeing and resilience.”

Gold accreditation means that volunteers and staff across the charity are taking ownership for making their policies, values, and vision of ending homelessness come to life.

Only 17% of organisations achieve the gold standard.

Sonia Denham, Head of Petrus, said: “We are so delighted to receive this award and that Investors in People have recognised our volunteers and staff’s genuine passion and dedication to making a difference to the lives of our residents and service users.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our team.”

Petrus provides residential and day support services for people facing homelessness or in housing need throughout the boroughs of Rochdale and Oldham, empowering individuals and helping them develop their skills and independence.

As keyworkers, they have continued to provide their services to vulnerable people sleeping rough and those at risk of becoming homeless.

Just nine weeks into the initial lockdown, their team had provided over 2,500 free meals for people living on the streets.

Sonia added: “We were identified as continuing to comfortably outperform the sector’s average, and we’re once again pleased to maintain this level of excellence even in the face of this year’s challenges. It is a true testament of the hard work by our team.”

Paul Devoy, CEO of Investors in People, said: “We’d like to congratulate Petrus.

“Gold accreditation on We Invest in People is a fantastic effort for any organisation, and places Petrus in fine company with a host of organisations that understand the value of people.”
