Rochdale in Bloom selected as a Co-op local cause

Date published: 10 November 2020

Rochdale in Bloom has been selected by the Co-op as a local cause for the next year.

Money that Co-op members spend in their Cutgate and Rooley Moor Road shops, and Rochdale’s three funeral care branches, will be donated back to local causes, including Rochdale In Bloom.

Every time members shop at the Co-op, 2% of what they spend on selected own-brand products and services goes to the Co-op Local Causes Fund.

Rochdale in Bloom isn’t just about planting beautiful floral displays. It’s about protecting the environment and wildlife that surrounds us, bringing communities together, supporting people in need and our armed forces, fostering pride in our neighbourhoods, and promoting fitness and mental health well-being.

Roy Down, Rochdale in Bloom Chairman, said: "Coronavirus has hit residents across this great borough of ours.

"The money that we receive from the Co-op and generosity of its patrons will go towards supporting projects in our local wards. Brightening up areas and hopefully making people smile makes all the hard work worthwhile."

Members of the Co-op can choose a local cause by signing into your online account at coop.co.uk/local-causes – and there is a search facility so you can choose a cause wherever you live. Co-op members in the local community can choose which local cause receives their share. In 2019, £17m went to more than 4,000 local causes, thanks to the Co-op and its members.

If you’re not already a member and would like to join, all you need to do is go to coop.co.uk/membership and choose ‘Become a Member’. Then, once you’ve joined, simply select a local cause.

By doing this, not only will you be donating 2% of your spend (at no cost to you), but you’ll also be receive 2% back in an online wallet to spend on future purchases, or donate an additional amount to your chosen local cause.

The Co-op has also announced the national launch of Co-operate - an online community centre, available on co-operate.coop.co.uk/support. It connects vulnerable people to local and national support initiatives, but also to volunteers who are willing to run virtual events such as exercise classes, music groups, or arts and crafts classes for others, across the country.
