Memorial cross of stones remembering loved ones at St Andrew's Church

Date published: 04 November 2020

St Andrew’s Church in Dearnley has created a cross of remembrance made out of stones, bearing the names of loved ones.

The cross was created for the All Souls’ Day service on Sunday 1 November, but now takes the form of a tribute to all those who lost their lives in conflict. Stones can be added to the cross at any time until Sunday, after which the cross will remain in place until Remembrance Day (11 November).

People are invited to remember those who died in conflict by placing a poppy, bought or made, around the cross ahead of services on Sunday 8 November at 9.30am and 10.30am, the latter coinciding with the Act of Remembrance at 11am.

A spokesperson for the church said: “The service was in church but there was a final prayer at the cross after both services. Both services were well attended, poignant as these were the last services people could attend before lockdown.”
