Give the gift of coffee with Baillie Street bistro’s ‘pay with a post-it’ scheme

Pay with a post it and gift a stranger a coffee at Petit Bistro & Bar
Petit Bistro & Bar in Rochdale town centre have launched an offer which means those who are struggling or have recently lost their job do not need to worry about enjoying a nice hot coffee as the weather gets colder, before we go into a national lockdown on Thursday (5 November).
Working with Rochdale Business Improvement District (BID), people with a little extra cash can pop into the bistro on Baillie Street and pay for a post-it, add a message and stick it to a board, while those who are struggling, then take a note and use it to pay – giving the gift of coffee to a stranger.
Terry Fleming, owner of Petit Bistro, said: “This idea was suggested to us by the Business Improvement District and we jumped at the chance to facilitate it.
“Anyone with a little spare cash can pay for an extra coffee, write a message on a post-it note and affix it to the message board.
“Since we started, the generosity from the community we’ve seen has been unbelievable.
“Anyone who fancies a free coffee can pop in and take a post-it off the board and hand it to one of our staff. There’s no fuss, please don’t feel like you have to miss out, so please pop in to pick up a coffee and feel free to stay for a chat.”
Paul Ambrose, Business Improvement District Manager, said: “This is truly a wonderful idea and this offer shows that kindness can be so easy to spread. I thank Petit Bistro and those who have popped in to purchase an additional coffee.”
