10-year-old cycles 27 miles to raise money for Wild Things Drama school

Date published: 03 November 2020

A 10-year-old girl from Newhey has raised hundreds of pounds for her drama school with a 27 mile bike ride.

Freya Crowther has ridden from Newhey to Todmorden to raise money for Wild Things Drama School in Denshaw.

Freya joined the school a year ago, which helped her gain confidence and change her life.

Freya’s parents, nursery manager Joanne, and panel beater, Scott, are both key workers which has meant Freya has had to self-isolate on a number of occasions.

However, the school helped Freya through lockdown, with online quizzes, competitions and lessons, keeping children engaged and reaching out on a weekly basis.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the drama school had to significantly reduce their fees, and began to struggle financially.

To help her drama school through the difficult times, Freya decided to do a 26 mile bike ride, eventually riding 27.46 miles in four hours and 41 minutes with her dad, and raised a total of £555 - exceeding original expectations of £100.

Mum Joanne said: “So many children can be helped by this amazing drama school, we hope more will continue to benefit.”

Wild Things Drama school offers classes in drama, dance and singing for children aged 3 to 18.
