Rochdale man sentenced after assaulting his wife

Date published: 02 October 2020

A Rochdale man has been sentenced for assault, after beating his wife.

Michael Stewart, 41, was sentenced at Manchester & Salford Magistrates’ Court last month.

He pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to offences relating to him assaulting his wife, by beating, in February 2020.

Mr Stewart also pleaded guilty to sending threatening text messages to another victim, who he also assaulted by beating.

He was sentenced to an 18-month community order, 200 hours’ unpaid work and 30 days’ rehabilitation. He was also ordered to pay compensation to both victims, pay a surcharge and costs.

The judge also imposed a two-year restraining order, prohibiting Stewart from making contact with either of the victims and prohibiting him from entering several local addresses.
