Burst water main closes Whitworth Road
Date published: 02 March 2020
Whitworth Road is closed in both directions (St Mary's Gate to Haynes Street)
A section of Whitworth Road in Rochdale centre will be closed whilst repairs are being carried out after a water main burst.
The road flooded between St Mary’s Gate and Haynes Street on Saturday (29 February), with repairs to the water main being completed in the early hours of Monday morning (2 March).
The road, however, remains closed between St Mary’s Gate and Haynes Street. It has not yet been confirmed how long it will take to replace the road surface.
A United Utilities spokesperson said: “We’re pleased to report that we completed repairs on a burst water main on Whitworth Road in the early hours of this morning. Our water on wheels tankers kept the taps flowing for customers during repairs and everything is now back to normal.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
Rochdale Borough Council has been contacted for comment.
