Two Rochdale Ramblers raise £748 walking Hadrian’s Wall

Two members of the Rochdale Ramblers walking group have raised £748 for the Alzheimer’s Society after completing a 13-mile trek at Hadrian's Wall.

Dianne Webb and Sue Eves set off to Hadrian’s Wall in Haltwhistle, Northumberland on Saturday 10 August to walk the 13 miles, rated ‘very tough’, as part of the Alzheimer’s Society ‘Trek26 Hadrian's Wall’ event.

Both Dianne and Sue's fathers died from dementia conditions, so they say fundraising for the charity is always in their thoughts.

Sue said: “On Saturday 10 August we set off on a very wet and windy 13-mile walk at Hadrian’s Wall.

“It was a lovely walk despite the last-minute route change and the weather conditions. Every step was worth it knowing that we were raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

“When we first registered for the walk the joint target of raising £400 seemed daunting, but the Rochdale Ramblers donations soon had us well on the way to that target and beyond, raising a final total of £748.

“We both know that our dads would be very proud of us for completing the walk in 5 hours 11 minutes, finishing 79th and 80th out of 233 walkers; no dawdling in the rain with the promise of a prosecco at the finishing line.

“Dianne and I would like to thank all of the Rochdale Ramblers for their generous donations and support, we couldn’t have done it without you.”

Hadrian’s Wall, one of England's most historical landmarks, is a site of ancient Roman paths stretching 73 miles. It was built to guard the north west frontier of the Roman Empire.

Alzheimer’s Society Trek26 offers 13 or 26-mile walks in six different locations across the UK including Hadrian’s Wall, Stonehenge and the Yorkshire Three Peaks. Those who take part in the treks are asked to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Society.
