Local residents have been left without water or with low water pressure in Heywood, Rochdale and Bury following a water leak on Monday morning (2 September).

The leak on Bamford Road, Heywood, was reported to United Utilities at 6.23am, which has left people with no water or poor pressure in the OL10, OL11 and BL9 postcode areas.

There are road closures in place from the junction of Bamford Road/Bury & Rochdale Old Road (with access for residents and businesses as far as Mine Street) to junction of Melrose Avenue/Bamford Road due to flooding. Diversions are in place.

Bamford Road is closed

The 461 and 475 bus services between Heywood and Bury will be diverting along Queen's Park Road.

It is not currently known how many people have been affected.

In an update at 8.30am, United Utilities confirmed leakage engineers would be shortly on site.

A view of the flooding

A spokesperson for United Utilities confirmed at 10.30am: "It was a burst on 18-inch water main. Household customers around Bamford Road went off supply for a short time this morning, but engineers brought water across to the area using nearby pipes. Specialist crews are attending an industrial estate which was flooding.

"We are working closely with Rochdale Council, and likely the road will be closed for two weeks so repairs can be carried out."
