Rochdale student in triumph as she’s set for Cambridge

Date published: 30 August 2019

18-year-old Kate Higgins is one Rochdale student celebrating success after fantastic A-level results this year.

A former pupil of Meanwood Primary School and Bury Grammar School, Kate achieved two A*’s and an A in A-level History, Politics and French.

She will now be studying History and Modern Languages at Selwyn College, part of the University of Cambridge, in October 2019.

Kate’s mum, Jane Higgins, said: “Kate chose to apply to Cambridge because of its reputation and strength in the History and French courses available.

“After visiting on the open day, she was very impressed by the university and impressed that the History and French course offered a lot of personal choice with the modules. “

Kate said: “I’ve wanted to go to Cambridge for around two years now, since taking my GCSEs.

“I enjoy history because it is a way of putting modern events and circumstances into context and as very few English speakers choose to learn a second language, I believe studying French will be useful, especially because after university I would like to become a diplomat.”
