Bank holiday fun day raises funds for Smile Aid

Date published: 30 August 2019

A family fun day was held in Broadfield Park over the bank holiday weekend, raising money for the charity Smile Aid.

Organised by Empowering Education - a female led organisation helping women come out of isolation, gain confidence and break barriers in Rochdale – the event was hosted on Sunday 25 August and offered a variety of activities and entertainment for attendees.

Locals enjoyed rides, inflatables, live music performances, face painting, henna, a number of stalls, food, raffles and much more, with the whole purpose of the event being to bring communities together.

Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Billy Sheerin, attended and was very happy with the atmosphere.

He said: “The afternoon was enjoyed by all in the blazing heat. It was an amazing day out for the Rochdale community with lots to do.

“I toured all the stalls and attractions and was glad to see all having a good time over the bank holiday weekend.”

Kalsoom Khanum from Empowering Education said: “A few local businesses helped us with raffle prizes and sponsored the event.

“We would like to say a big thank to SM Cash and Carry, Elite Design and Print, ASTM, Coco's, Gelato Ice Lounge, AK Blends, Sijs Barber Shop, SA Hair and Beauty, The Kebab House, BTK Boxing Academy, Sahara Grill, Jungle Grill and all others who helped us.

“All who attended the event loved it - we had over 1,000 people who attended.

“All the money raised will be donated to Smile Aid who work endlessly to help the homeless in Greater Manchester and also help widows and orphans internationally.

”We are hoping to host this event every year.”
