Event set to boost Rochdale high streets amid store closures

An event tailored specifically for retailers will be held in Rochdale
Rochdale's retail sector is set to receive a much-needed boost with a new initiative aimed at helping local businesses adapt and thrive in the face of increasing challenges.
On 10 October, an event tailored specifically for retailers will be held in Rochdale, offering expert advice, insights, and practical strategies to help businesses navigate the current economic climate.
This initiative, launched by GM Business Growth Hub, coincides with the troubling news that 38 shops are closing daily across UK high streets. However, amidst the bleak statistics, there are signs of hope, particularly for certain sectors of the retail industry.
GM Business Growth Hub has introduced a specialist support package for Rochdale’s high streets, provided at no cost to businesses. The organisation hopes this initiative will help revitalise the local retail landscape.
Yvonne Sampson, head of enterprise at GM Business Growth Hub, emphasised the importance of supporting small business owners who form the backbone of local communities. She said: "High streets are the beating heart of communities, but people often forget about the small business owners that keep them going.
“This report shows that more attention and support need to be given to them. That’s why we’ve built this support through feedback from retailers, so we know that it’s needed and will really make a difference in our local communities."
The newly launched support will be led by Omar Mulla, GM Business Growth Hub’s retail specialist.
The programme offers retailers in Rochdale the chance to access valuable advice on overcoming the challenges they face. The initiative is designed to help businesses of all sizes stay competitive by providing strategies tailored to their unique needs.
Omar Mulla, who brings years of experience in retail and ecommerce, expressed his enthusiasm for the programme.
He said: "I’ve worked in retail and ecommerce since I was in my teens, so I’m really excited to be bringing this support to Rochdale businesses. We’ve spent time with business owners from across the region to make sure it’s exactly what they need.
“Despite the challenges facing the UK retail sector, Mulla sees reasons for optimism. "There is hope! Some areas, like value retailers and small shops, have shown clear signs of growth. And with this support, we can help put all our high streets in the best position possible."
The event on 10 October will feature guest speakers with extensive backgrounds in retail, digital marketing, and customer experience. Attendees will gain insights into new strategies for growing their businesses, with a focus on addressing key challenges and tapping into growth opportunities.
