Date published: 19 September 2024

Newhouse Academy in Heywood is offering the families of prospective students an opportunity to come and see the school with an open evening event, being held on Thursday 26 September 2024 from 5.30pm.

Newhouse Academy, is part of Hollingworth Learning Trust and is committed to providing opportunities for all students to thrive, in a school where the values of aspiration, integrity and respect are integral.

This is coupled with the determination to ensure they all achieve their desired destinations after Year 11, when they leave.

Mr Alex Burnham, headteacher of Newhouse Academy said: “We believe that all students, regardless of their starting point, should have the opportunity to achieve their goals in education. Newhouse Academy strives to instil in them a belief that intelligence is an area where we can all improve, if we work hard and see our mistakes as part of that learning journey.

"This mind-set is placed at the heart of our teaching and learning, and it enables students to develop – both personally and academically. This approach nurtures students to see challenges as opportunities to shine. Ofsted recognised this strong process when judging behaviours and attitudes as ‘good’ for the first time in 12 years.

"We are delighted with another year of improving GCSE results, reflecting the hard work, resilience, and determination of our students. The number of students with improved grades in subjects across the curriculum followed an uphill trend across the year group.

"There were also outstanding results in many other subjects with construction, photography, Spanish, French, physical education and sports science results worthy of special mention.

"'Our People' and the high expectations of both students and staff are the starting point of every academic year. Our comprehensive education has been strengthened by the opening of a new building, (September 2024). This will promote the sciences, arts and technical education with subjects such as engineering, product design, IT and construction.”

Operating alongside the current Newhouse building which opened in 2012 the new building incorporates a four-court sports hall, activity studio, drama studio, main hall, changing rooms, construction, engineering and design technology workshops, a dining hall, fitness studio, music rooms, science labs, graphics and food technology rooms, and related spaces.

The coming year will see the school grounds landscaped and developed to provide fabulous outside spaces too.

The academy nurtures strong links between school and home to support students to gain the most from their education and has invested more resources into SEND and SEMH than ever before to ensure success is accessible to all.

With state of the art facilities and a dedicated team of staff, Newhouse Academy ensures that its curriculum offer is ambitious, enjoyable and brought to life for students.

The school also offers a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities on a daily basis. Students can get involved in sports teams and clubs, book clubs, performing arts activities, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and much, much more. The opportunity to participate in trips and visits, including residential and overseas adventures is also available.
