Celebrating a strong set of GCSE results at Matthew Moss (L-R: Shiza, Caitlin and Roshni)
Students and staff at Matthew Moss High School are again celebrating a strong set of examination results on Thursday (22 August).
Grades have continued to rise above those of previous years with science subjects especially successful, over a quarter of students attaining a grade 7, 8 or 9, the highest achievable.
The bottom of a grade 7 is comparable to the bottom of the old grade A, whilst the bottom of a new grade 4 is comparable to the bottom of the old grade C. Grade 9 is the equivalent of above an A*.
Of particular note are the performances of Shiza (four grade 9’s, three grade 8’s and two grade 7’s); Katy (three grade 9’s, three grade 8’s, a level 2 distinction and a level 2 merit); Maariya (three grade 9’s, three grade 8’s, two grade 7’s and a level 2 distinction); and Roshni (three grade 9’s, three grade 8’s, one grade 7 and a level 2 distinction).
Headteacher Mark Moorhouse said: “It is a testament to the commitment of the young people within our care, their families and the work of the Matthew Moss team that we are again harvesting such a great crop of results.
“Science continues to be a headline strength, many more students achieving top grades than the national average. This is excellent news for those aspiring to be doctors, dentists, opticians or indeed any of the healthcare professions.
“Well done everyone!”
