Local race organiser to reach race number 669 on New Year’s Day

Date published: 28 December 2018

A local prolific race organiser, Andy O’Sullivan MBE, is starting 2019 by doing what he does best, staging a race.

Andy, of Andems Runners, Whitworth, has organised hundreds of races since 1983, with the upcoming New Year’s Day race numbering race 669.

Since then, Andy has continued organising charity races, many named after people who contributed enormously to the sport.

The ‘John Schofield Brownhouse Reservoir 5K’ takes place at 11.30am on 1 January 2019 from the Red Lion Pub, The Square, Whitworth, and includes a road climb, two laps of the top disused reservoir and a descent to the finish.

Mollie Campbell, Whitworth’s Commonwealth Games Silver Medallist will benefit from the proceeds.

In 1991, Andy received the BEM for services to the police and charities, which was followed with an MBE for services to Athletics and Charities 13 years later in 2004.  He even carried the Olympic torch in London that year, together with the most famous people in the UK.
