Middleton Rotary Club helps with last minute presents for Middleton children

Date published: 20 December 2018

It recently became apparent that some of the families in Middleton, that were recipients of the food parcels given out by Middleton Foodbank, were also in a situation where they were unable to provide a single Christmas present for their children.

Cath Stott who works with the Lighthouse Project which runs the Middleton Foodbank decided there was a need to rectify the situation and so started a project to ensure that the 167 families identified were able to give their children a Christmas present.

Keith Trinnaman, Treasurer of Middleton Rotary Club decided that the Club should help, he said: “Cath sent out an appeal to the people of Middleton for toys to be donated so that these children did not go without.

“On hearing of this plight Middleton Rotary Club sprang into action and agreed to fund the Christmas present project to the tune of £500.

“This really didn't take any time to think about, it was something we had to get involved in.

“I spoke to our President Kit Wellens and we agreed the funding right away.

“We are currently out escorting Santa around the streets of Middleton, seeing the delight on the faces of the children when they see Santa just made us realise that we couldn't allow these 167 to go without.

“We are delighted to offer our support in this way.”

Cath Stott said: “The response we have had from the Middleton public is wonderful and we are so grateful.

“The money we have received from Middleton Rotary is absolutely fantastic and we can now fulfil what we set out to do, to ensure we bring some cheer to these families over the Christmas period.”
