Open Evening attracts record number of visitors

Our Open Evening was extremely well attended, a record of over 560 visitors came along on the night. Guests were at first treated to a performance from the cast of Cinderella followed by a welcome address from our headteacher Mr Shields.

Our student guides were then ready to take friends and families along the three different routes around the school. Every area of St. Cuthbert’s was available, and both adults and children were excited to see our wonderful facilities, many of them taking part in the large range of activities we had on offer. Student leaders given extra responsibilities

The Year 11 Student Leaders can now be easily recognised around school. They have very distinguished red ties and student leader badges. Their responsibilities range from stewardship, fundraising, pupil support and Glee Club to name but a few. We are looking forward to seeing how their extra hard work will further enrich everything that we do.

Assemblies this week

Our Headteacher Mr Shields led assemblies this week and the focus was the meaning of belonging to a Roman Catholic School and our Mission Statement; which is also our School Prayer. The purpose of the Mission Statement is to highlight the aims and values of St. Cuthbert’s within our school and our wider community. It says what we want to be and how we intend to get there.

Mr Shields said that “Each and every one of us has our own lives, dreams, ambitions, feelings and hopes for the future.” He went on to tell the students of the importance of helping others whenever we can, whether that be in our daily lives, through charity work or even within the careers we choose. How making the right choice is important to us in our work, our behaviour and our attitudes towards doing the right thing. By being the best that we can be we need to use our capabilities, be determined, invest well in our time, try to be prepared and never give up.

Mrs Greenhalgh nominated for Football Player Award

Up against professional footballers from the WSL our very own Mrs Greenhalgh is nominated in the Women’s Football Player of the Year in the North West Football Awards. She has helped the team towards the league title scoring over 30 goals in all competitions. Voting for the 2018 North West Football Awards is now open with Burnley F.C. Good luck Mrs Greenhalgh we are rooting for you!

Welcome Masses

We were delighted that Fr. Kevin was in school this week to mark the start of the new school year in the appropriate way by celebrating Holy Mass with Years 7, 10 & 11. For some of our Year 7 pupils, it was the first time they had taken part in Catholic Mass.

During the Mass, pupils were reminded in the readings and homily that they are loved, and that God always allows us to make a fresh start and that it is never too late to make changes.

Our thanks go to Fr. Kevin for his care and dedication and to our Pupil Chaplains and Music Liturgy Group for their help in making the Masses run smoothly and joyfully. We will welcome Fr. Kevin in school again next week to celebrate Mass with Years 8 & 9.
