Barnardo’s shops across Greater Manchester are urging ‘fashionistas’, ‘hoarders’ and ‘wear-it-once’ offenders to have a summer wardrobe sort out and donate any pre-loved or unworn clothes to them.

A study by Barnardo’s found clothing in charity shops retails at 15% of its original price which means there are plenty of bargains to be found. The study also found that the amount of clothes no longer worn or wanted which is kept in wardrobes could stretch from Belfast to Los Angeles.

Barnardo’s Regional Retail Manager Marie Williams said: “July is the perfect time of year to have a sort out when people are getting their summer wardrobes together or packing for holiday and what better way to make space in your home than to donate to Barnardo’s.

“So many people have items of clothes in their wardrobes which have rarely or never been worn and are in really good condition.

“Donating these pieces to Barnardo’s helps us raise vital funds to support local children who are less advantaged or vulnerable. Last year we supported more than 27,000 children, young people, parents and carers across the North West and surrounding region.

“Having a summer wardrobe sort out can really can help transform young lives for the better, so we’d encourage everyone to join in and have a declutter.”
