Rochdale In Bloom’s ‘Silent Soldier’ exhibit has been awarded a plaque for the best Blooming Border exhibit at the Royal Horticultural Society’s flower show in Tatton Park.
The exhibit, a smaller version of the ‘pop-up’ garden near the Gracie Fields statue in Rochdale centre, was given the accolade over seven other entries, and was also awarded a gold on Wednesday (18 July).
Paul Ellison, of Rochdale in Bloom, said: “I’m overwhelmed to be bringing gold back to Rochdale and I’m thrilled to have exhibited this commemorative tribute at Tatton Park.
“The judges were really impressed with the design and the plant choice, and I’m ecstatic that we won in the whole category.
“A big thank you goes to the Rochdale in Bloom team, the staff of Rochdale Borough Council Environmental Management and our sponsor, Marshall’s.”
The design and theme, based on 100 years’ celebration of the end of World War One, suitably featured a lone piper from the Oldham Scottish pipe band playing a lament, truly adding to the reflective atmosphere.
The flower show takes place between Wednesday 18 and Sunday 22 July and is open to members of the public.
