Child’s hover board catches fire

Date published: 29 August 2017

A child’s hover board had caught fire while on charge in the kitchen of a house on Boundary Street, Rochdale on Sunday.

The occupiers of the house had been able to put the fire out before fire crews arrived but the crews ensured the fire was fully extinguished.

One casualty suffered a slight burn to their foot and was taken to hospital by ambulance paramedics.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Luckily this incident occurred while the occupants of the house were still awake and they were able to take action. Always take care when leaving items on charge, especially overnight.

"If there is an electrical fire, pull the plug out, or switch off the power at the fuse box - if it is safe to do so. Sometimes this can stop the fire immediately. Never use water on an electrical fire, and don't take any risks with your safety - get out, stay out and call 999."
