The money will be shared between Macmillan Nurses in Prostate Cancer Care and Medic Malawi, an African charity helping orphaned and vulnerable people in Malawi.

Ann Stott, President of Rochdale Rotary, said: “I am very proud to be the newly elected President of Rochdale Rotary and to have witnessed the huge success of our very first Classic Car Show held at Littleborough Sports Club.

“This show was originally the idea of immediate past president, John Holder, and member, John Whitley, after visiting a similar event over the border.

“The drive behind this (excuse the pun) was then taken up enthusiastically by another member, Michael Tomkinson, and last Sunday was the result.

“Over 300 classic cars were present for the enjoyment and general pleasure of the huge number of attendees of all ages.

“Everyone pulled together to assist and provide in all sorts of ways, including Raynet, Roch Valley Radio, Littleborough Sports Club with provision and use of their premises, all the stall holders, Rochdale Council, and lastly, but not least, all our brilliant Rotary members, friends and relatives.

“We also wouldn’t have been able to do the show on such a scale without very generous sponsorship from Tetrosyl Rochdale, who specialise in manufacturing car products. The car company RRG Skoda Rochdale also contributed.

“A huge debt of gratitude is due to everyone for helping in each and every way.

“The club hopes to make this an annual event.”
