  • 28 Gold Medals
  • 17 Silver Medals
  • 11 Bronze Medals

A special mention must go to Basil Zola in year 7 who picked up three gold medals in the 200 metres, triple jump and relay.

Year 7 and Year 9 girls were the overall winners in their year group, and the fantastic performances from all pupils resulted in St. Cuthbert’s winning the overall schools trophy.

Life Skills - BOB Box Launch

Building on our strong links with CAFOD, members of our CAFOD/Caritas Ambassador Team were invited to take part in the launch of the BOB BOX - a very special CAFOD project, supported by Bishop John Arnold.

CAFOD Community Co-ordinator Steve Burrowes, with the help of pupils, has developed this simple but very effective way of raising money for CAFOD, taking care of the planet and helping people back into work all through making and selling Bat and Bird Boxes!

It is already an award-winning project but with the help of our schools and local community, Bishop John believes that it is possible to raise £500,000 for CAFOD through the sale of Bat and Bird Boxes.

The BOB box comes as a flat pack kit with simple instructions for putting it together. The flat packs are put together by HMP Buckley Hall in Rochdale. As the name suggests, the BOB box can be used as either a bat or bird box. The materials to make a BOB box cost £2.50 and each box is then sold for £10. All the profit goes to CAFOD.

St. Cuthbert's have been invited to support the project by either making or selling BOB boxes or both! We are thinking it could be a possible fund-raising enterprise project for us for Advent and will make a great Christmas gift for those relatives it is difficult to buy gifts for! We can use the profit from any sales to buy items from the CAFOD World Gift catalogue to help people in the developing world. Watch this space!

Year 9 Drama Group

Over the last few months thirteen Year 9 Drama students have been giving up their time and working after school on a project with the Healthy ACTions group. They created a play that looks at the world through the eyes of pupils with mental health issues and aimed to promote a greater understanding of how they feel and try to cope.

The finished production was presented to other exam students in the school and was also taken to Wardle Academy where they performed in front of another class of Year 9 pupils. The final performances were incredibly strong and often moving in places.

The whole experience has been really challenging, thought provoking and the performances proved to be a credit to all involved.
