Healthy Lifestyles Strategy aims to improve the wellbeing of the Borough

Date published: 16 March 2006

Have you got any ideas on how the health services can help Rochdale residents become healthier?

Can you think of ways in which the health service can make healthier choices easier?

Please submit your ideas to the Health Promotion Team and your recommendations could be included in the Healthy Lifestyles Strategy.

Primary Care Trusts in the Borough have teamed up with the Local Authorities to develop this strategy, which intends to improve the health of the population through co-ordinated action for Smoke Freedom, Food & Healthy Eating, Physical Activity and Obesity.

Heart Disease, Strokes, Diabetes, Cancer and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease are the main causes of premature death in the Borough.

Smoking is the single highest cause of preventable illness, with an estimated 412 deaths each year from smoke related diseases.

Dr Sheila Will, Director of Public Health for Rochdale Borough said, “This is a great opportunity for members of the public or local businesses to get involved in sharing ideas on how we can improve the health of people living in Rochdale. Choosing to adopt a healthy lifestyle is the first step towards a healthier future. Tell us what we can do to persuade you to make this choice easier?”

The Borough-wide Healthy Lifestyles Strategy has been developed to implement the Government’s White Paper – Choosing Health Making Healthier Choices published in November 2004.

The PCT would welcome your comments on the Draft Strategy and Action Plans, to help make further revisions and changes.

If you would like to see your ideas put into practice submit your comments by Friday 6th April 2006 by email or in writing to:
