It’s child’s play at Kirkholt's Kirky Kitchen

Date published: 28 January 2017

Kirkholt's Kirky Kitchen volunteers have opened a children’s soft play area with the help of local councillors.

The initiative, run from St Thomas’s Church by the Rev Angela Bryan, is calling on local mums and tots to pop in and make use of the indoor play area free of charge.

The facility is part of the community café which operates from the Gainsborough Drive church from 9am – 3pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The play area has been funded by a grant from the Kirkholt councillors.

Visitors can make use of the soft playground if they pop in, and they can also sample the food - at cheap prices - at the same time.

Local councillors Kathleen Nickson and Richard Farnell dropped in to the kitchen this week to see the new play area for themselves.

Councillor Farnell said: “Kirky Kitchen is a brilliant local resource. Now with this play area, it’s just got even better.

“I know residents on the estate really appreciate the excellent work Angela and her team are doing, this is another example of that vital work.”

Rev Bryan said: “I’m really excited about this new facility which now means young mums can have a quick cuppa and a catch up while their toddlers can play in a warm, safe environment.”

Councillor Nickson added: "St Thomas's is a great church right at the heart of the local community. There's always lots going on and the toddlers play area is just the latest in a long line of initiatives. I don't know where Angela gets all her energy from."
