A big Happy New Year and welcome back to all our families. We hope you all enjoyed the holidays and spent lots of lovely family time together. It was great to see our children back on Tuesday and ready to learn.

On Wednesday 4 January some of our children from Lower Key Stage 2 went to The Lowry theatre to enjoy a performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Everyone who went really enjoyed the show and the behaviour of the children was impeccable as always. We even received an email from a lady who was sat near our group, she commented how well the children behaved and what a credit they are to the school. A big thankyou you Mrs Booth and the other staff in the unit for organising this trip, as a lot of planning goes into this kind of event.

Many parents will be aware that our preferred method of getting information to parents at short notice is through the text messaging service. We have been made aware that some parents didn’t receive our messages on Wednesday in relation to the return of the children from the theatre trip. The delay in the return of the second coach was totally beyond our control, but the text message facility allowed us to communicate the situation to parents and inform parents when the coach was due back. If parents aren’t currently receiving text messages from school, then please pass the correct mobile number to your child’s class teacher or the school office. We can then update our records accordingly.

Due to unforeseen circumstances our Sports Clubs which are run before and after school will not now be starting until week commencing 16 January. Letters will be sent out next week in relation to these. Parents, please ensure that you return your signed permission slips in order for your child to be allocated a place.

Please can parents be aware that the deadline for applications for reception places for this September is Sunday 15 January. If you have a child who currently attends nursery and they will be 4 on the 1st September 2017, then you need to submit an application by this date. If you have any questions or concerns, then please speak to Mrs Bradshaw or call into the school office and they will assist.

We took a call this week from a local resident who was very shaken up after almost hitting a child who had run into the road at the end of the school entrance. Please can parents keep a close eye on your children at all times in order to keep them safe from harm.

Well done to Mrs Bearpark’s class with best attendance for week ending 16 December 2016.

The Star of the Week and Citizens of the week will return next week.
