Rochdale Man of the Year
Date published: 27 November 2005
Held in the baroque splendour of Rochdale Town Hall, the Rochdale Man of the Year lunch was once again a complete sell out.
Toastmaster Alan Calow opened proceedings, welcoming top table guests that included The Mayor, Councillor Ashley Dearnley, the Bishop of Middleton Michael Lewis, and Rochdale MP Paul Rowen. Compere Councillor Robert Clegg was in irrepressible form and soon had the hall rocking with laughter.
Oldham born GMTV presenter John Stapleton was the guest speaker, and entertained his audience with a mix of amusing anecdotes and a behind the scenes look at the job of a TV reporter.
There were 18 nominations for Rochdale Man of the Year; the winner Steve Cohen was presented with his trophy by last years winner David Grime. Steve has been raising funds for ARCH, the Association of Rochdale Charities since 1982, since when he has raised over £56,000.
