Revive Castleton Carnival through to second round of the Aviva Community Fund

Date published: 25 October 2016

Claire Dring’s ambition of reviving Castleton Carnival has made it through to the second round of the Aviva Community Fund.

Claire, who owns Forget Me Not in Castleton, said: “The carnival ceased to exist in 2010, which was a shame as it was a major community event.

“There is a lot of regeneration going on in the area and myself, together with the other local businesses, are busily trying to revive the carnival.

“The community will benefit from the money raised, but the main impact we would like is to bring the community back together.

“If it doesn't happen next year, it certainly will the year after, as we are frantically trying to raise funds to pay for insurance and for the road to be closed. The local councillors are behind us and are helping any way they can, as they too want the village to benefit.

“We have direct transport links and we would love outside visitors.

“It's a big project, but one that we can make happen with the right support.”

Voting is now open for the project to receive £1,000 pounds from Aviva:
