Date published: 18 October 2005

Detectives in Rochdale are appealing for information following an armed robbery at a post office in Middleton Monday morning, 17 October 2005.

At approximately 10.10am, two men pulled up on a green Suzuki motorbike outside the Bowness Road Post Office in Langley. The pillion passenger got off the bike and went inside the store. He then walked up to the counter and pointed a black handgun at the subpostmaster and demanded money.

The man then ran out of the store with a quantity of cash. He got back on the motorbike and the two men rode away.

The man who went inside the post office has been described as white, and was wearing a black three quarter length jacket, blue tracksuit bottoms and a blue full face crash helmet. He was carrying a blue sports bag.

The driver of the bike is described as being 5ft 10in to 5ft 11in tall, and was wearing a black puffa style jacket, light coloured brown trousers and a black full face crash helmet.

The two men were riding a green Suzuki 600 SV motorbike, registration number P734 MWB. Detectives are keen to trace the two men and the bike and are urging anyone who knows where they may be to contact police.

Anyone who may have seen the incident or anyone who recognises the description of the two men is asked to contact Middleton CID on 0161 856 8753 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Post Office Ltd is offering a reward up to £10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this incident.
