Springhill Sponsored Spokes Competition
Date published: 13 October 2005
Springhill Hospice is proud to announce one of their most exciting and adventurous fundraising challenges to date. They have invited the world’s biggest bike to come to Rochdale on Sunday 6th November and now you can find out how you can join in.
The distinctive bike is known as “Junior”, has seats for 15 people and is piloted by a professional driver. It cruises at a speed of approximately 15 miles per hour and is powered by 16 individual gears. The machine also comes with its very own sound system so riders can play cheerful tunes to sing along to during the journey!
The bike has been used to raise funds for various charities over the years and has been ridden by many high profile characters including members of the Emmerdale and Fame Academy cast.
The Fundraisers at Springhill Hospice have gathered together 5 teams of 15, from various companies and organisations around Rochdale. Each individual team member has a minimum of £50 to raise through sponsorship before the event and the combined team to raise the most funds will win the Springhill Sponsored Spokes Competition.
The teams are Springhill Hospice staff, Woodside Medical Centre of Middleton Fitness First, the Waggon Inn Loonies and the Litten Tree of Rochdale who have offered to host the event within their premises. The pub will be decked out in a ‘School Reunion’ theme and bar staff will be in full fancy dress. The dance floor will be converted into a playground with activities such as ‘Hopscotch’ and the bar will become a ‘tuck shop’ with sweets for the children.
Leyla Nejad, Community Fundraiser at Springhill Hospice said, “This event is going to be incredibly unique as the five teams joining forces to raise money for the Hospice are from such different vocations. We will have nurses pitted against fitness instructors, bar staff against doctors! It is going to be very interesting to see which team raises the most amount of money and lots of fun in the Litten Tree on the day! Bring your families along and join us, there will be lots to do for everyone and the more the merrier!”
The event will begin at 10.00am at the Litten Tree, Town Hall Square with the first team ready to set off upon the bike at 11.00am. For more information on how you can contact Leyla Nejad at Springhill Hospice Fundraising Office on 01706 711144.
